Worcester Irish Music Fest…

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Well … the Worcester Irish Music Festival has come and gone. The weather wasn’t what we hoped for, but we made the best of it. Fortunately, the festival takes place under an enormous tent and all were protected from the elements.

We started the festivities on Saturday with an hour and a half of jigs, reels, hornpipes, songs, slides, more songs, more reels and more jigs. The crowd, although sparse due to our early time slot, was receptive. Overall, we had a really nice time and hope to get the opportunity to do it again.

SB to play Worcester Irish Music Fest in June

Friday, May 21st, 2010

The Stoneybatter Band will be performing at the Worcester Irish Music Festival on June 12th at noon. Were excited because we’re on the same bill as Solas. Ignore the fact that there are four hours between our performances…it still counts.

You can find more information about the festival and on the lineup of entertainment at worcesteririshmusicfestival.com

We were even given a small write-up in the Holliston press where they seem confused by what we do. Check out the line that says “The band performs Celtic music on wooden instruments – hear them sing and play Uilean pipes, the bouzouki and the kaossilator”.

I’m convinced they took the three craziest sounding words on our website and tried to make a sentence out of them. Nevermind those lame instruments like guitar, flute and fiddle. Those things are a dime a dozen. I wanna hear the wooden kaossilator!

This coming Saturday, February 6th, the Stoneybatter Band will be performing in a folk festival to benefit the victims of the Earthquake in Haiti at the Natick Crowne Plaza, 1360 Worcester St., from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Hampton Ballroom. Stoneybatter is scheduled to take the stage at 1:55 pm and will be performing for a half hour.

All proceeds from the event will be sent to Mercy Corps, which will use the donations to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti. The minimum donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children. There will also be a bake sale and refreshments.

Also featuring performances by The Stringbenders, Mark Peter Schmitt, Steven
Harris, and The Tuesdays.

The Stringbenders have been drawing a crowd for more than a decade and listening to a couple of tracks from Mark Peter Schmitt’s myspace page should let you know that we’re in for a treat.

It should be a great time all around with plenty of great folk, Celtic, and bluegrass tunes. Come on down, enjoy the music, the baked goods and feel good about making a difference!

Questions about the event can be sent to natick4haiti at gmail.com or call 508-816-7888. For more information on Mercy Corps, go to www.mercycorps.org/haiti.

Welcome to stoneybatterband.com

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Welcome! Stoneybatterband.com will be to the place to go to find out what our band is up to, when we’re playing and other such nonsense.

The first order of business is to inform you that we’ve changed the name of our band. Now, instead of Stoneybatter, we are officially the Stoneybatter Band.

Yes it’s a big step, I know. We believe this will make it easier for people to undersand that we are a band and not a road.

The second order of business will be to figure out a theme for this website that doesn’t look like it has candy sprinkled on it. All in due time.
